Day 1: Water towns and beautiful gardens

If you only have three days to explore Shanghai and its surroundings, then one of the best ways to start is with a trip to some of the beautiful water towns that dot the area. The most famous of these is undoubtedly Zhouzhuang, just 60km from the city center. Here, you’ll find beautiful canals, ancient bridges, and traditional architecture that date back centuries.

After a morning exploring, it’s time to hit the beautiful gardens that make this region so famous. Yu Garden is one of the most popular and is located right in the heart of downtown Shanghai. Here you’ll find peaceful walkways lined with cherry blossoms, beautiful rock formations, and tranquil ponds filled with koi.
